Saying Yes to Jesus - Joyce's story

I was privileged to grow up in a God-loving Christian family.  When I was a teenager, whilst I carried out all the ‘Christian’ routines such as praying and church activities, I had a lot of doubts about my beliefs.  I thought that if I had grown up in a Buddhist family, then I would have been a Buddhist.

When I turned 16, my parents asked me if I wanted to be baptised.  I wanted to but I felt that if I did, I would be a fraud.  I knew that my parents and their Christian friends had something that I didn’t.  So my father asked me to see my pastor, Pastor Richard Schaeffer.  My pastor said two things.  They were not rocket science but they changed my life.  Firstly, he said that God does not have grandchildren.  He only has children.  I must have a personal relationship with God, and not one accomplished through my parents.  Secondly, he said that even though I had said yes to Jesus before as a child, perhaps it would help me if I asked Him to be my Lord and Saviour again, once and for all, so that I would know without a shadow of a doubt that I had done that.  I did.  Soon afterwards, I was baptised.  And as I emerged from the water, I felt like

a whole new world had begun.
